DPR Mission Statement

The mission of DPR:

The rescue, care and adoption of unwanted and homeless dogs.  Continued education of the general public on the importance of spaying/neutering, positive training methods, exercise and appropriate medical treatment with humane care.

To work hand and hand with other ethical rescue groups promoting good working relationships to save more lives.

So that we can:

Continue our passion that enables small miracles for the dogs and the people who love them.

Delaware Puppy Rescues' purpose is to rescue homeless dogs and puppy mill survivors to be adopted to properly matched families through a multi-step adoption process including dog training and education of the families to ensure permanent placement.

Our History:

      • Delaware Puppy Rescue (DPR) was established in 2004 with the primary focus in the rescue and fostering of pregnant females, mother's with new litters and motherless litters that have been turned into shelters or found on the streets. In 2006 we expanded in the rescue of puppy mill survivors from Lancaster, PA.  Our belief is that a dog who has proper training along with an adoptive families education of proper care creates the foundation for permanent placement.
      • 2004 Adoptions: 22
      • 2005 Adoptions: 204
      • 2006 Adoptions: 284
      • 2007 Adoptions:  290
      • 2008 Adoptions:  240
      • 2009 Adoptions:  261

 2009 Accomplishments

  • We adopted out 261 puppies and dogs to wonderful forever homes.  With those 261 adoptions, there are 261 plus people educating others on the need to adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue.
  • We bettered our "relationships" with various millers both in Lancaster, PA and Ohio.  As a result of these relationships we have increased our ability to save dogs that truly would have had no chance of survival.
  • We expanded our work with shelters who will quarantine pups prior to transporting to us - a big plus in keeping our homes safe for future litters and our vet bills down.
  • We conducted our first puppy mill educational outing with more scheduled for 2010
  • Welcomed our newest member - Stella Martin!
  • We continued our networking with local rescues and shelters, increasing parternships to save more dogs.

What needs to be accomplished for 2010?

  • Continue educating the public why spaying and neutering is essential in saving the lives of 5 to 6 million pets from being euthanized each year.
  • Conduct our first 5k fundraiser.
  • Conduct 2 to 3 educational outings at various Delaware pet stores who sell puppies.
  • Visit 2 to 3 local schools to educate students of the need to rescue a dog and the truth behind pet store puppies.
  • Continue and grow our relationship with shelters to rescue dogs in their care and decrease the number of pets euthanized.
  • Continue to pressure state officials to enforce laws protecting animals in mills and shelters.
