  • ADOPTION  APPROVAL  PROCESS

  • Adoption application is completed and submitted automatically to DPR via email.
  • DPR volunteer reviews application for completeness (typically between 1 to 5 days from receipt).  Please remember we are all volunteers with full time jobs, families and caring for the pets in our care.  We do our very best to respond in a timely manner.
  • Based on information provided, DPR volunteer assess's if applicant is good match for pet specified.
  • If potential adopter and pet are deemed to be good match, volunteer proceeds to contact references.
  • Based on information received from references a determination is made if adoption process should proceed to having applicant meet with foster family and pet.
  • If process has proceeded to applicant meeting family and pet, applicant is instructed to contact foster family to set up a mutually agreeable time at the foster families' home.
  • A home visit is scheduled after meeting with the foster family.
  • DPR Director has final approval of adoption.  It may be given at the time of meeting the pet or made via email or phone call after initial meeting.  If it is decided by foster family that applicant and pet are not a good match, notification will be given within 24 hours.
  • If applicant is not considered a good match for specified pet indicated, DPR may suggest other pets that are available and considered a better match.

DPR has the right to refuse any adoption we do not feel is in the best interest of the animal

Since DPR is made up of volunteers, there are times,  due to limited resources and workload, that may delay our response time.

We thank you in advance for your patience.
